Body-Solid Installation: Richland Fire Station #76 (Richland, WA)

Nestled at the scenic confluence of the Yakima and Columbia Rivers in southeastern Washington, Richland is a city where deep historical roots meet cutting-edge innovation.

A Legacy of Science and Innovation

Richland is perhaps most famous for its role in the Manhattan Project. During World War II, it was a “closed city” that housed workers at the Hanford Site. It was here that the B Reactor produced the plutonium for the “Fat Man” bomb.

Today, that spirit of scientific discovery lives on. The city is home to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a premier Department of Energy facility that keeps Richland at the forefront of global research and technology.

Wine, Rivers, and Recreation

Beyond the labs, Richland serves as the ultimate gateway to the Columbia Valley wine region. Known globally for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the area offers a perfect blend of high-end viticulture and outdoor adventure. Whether you are trekking the Sacagawea Heritage Trail or sipping wine at a local estate, Richland offers a lifestyle that is hard to beat.

Protecting the Community: The Newest Fire Station

As Richland grows, so does its commitment to its first responders. The city recently unveiled a state-of-the-art 10,800-square-foot fire station.

This single-story facility is designed for maximum efficiency and safety, featuring:

  • Four double-deep drive-through apparatus bays.
  • A dedicated “Hot (Red) Zone” equipped with a decon room, decon shower, and specialized turnout storage to protect firefighters from contaminants.
  • Modern Support Spaces: Including a workshop, storage rooms, and high-end living quarters.

Elite Fitness for Richland’s Bravest

Physical readiness is critical for firefighting, and the new station features a stunning fitness center designed to keep the crew in peak condition. Phebe Markley, a Richland firefighter who oversees fitness for all city stations, collaborated with Dennis DuBois (ddubois@columbiafitness.com), Director of Commercial Sales at Columbia Fitness to curate the space.

The facility is outfitted with professional-grade equipment, including:

This new facility ensures that, while Richland firefighters protect the “Atomic City,” they have the best available resources to stay healthy and strong.
