HYROX has taken the fitness world by storm, branding itself as the “World Series of Fitness.” It’s a grueling combination of endurance and functional strength, consisting of eight 1km runs interspersed with eight functional workout stations.
Whether you are a seasoned HYROX pro or just a fitness enthusiast looking to test your limits, your success depends on one thing: your pre-race training. To crush the course, you need equipment that mimics the race-day experience.
Here is how you can use Body-Solid equipment to prepare for the functional stations and the runs in between.
Running & Rowing
The “secret sauce” of HYROX isn’t the strength stations—it’s the ability to run 8km under fatigue.
- The Run: Use Endurance by Body-Solid Treadmills to practice compromised running. Try performing a set of heavy squats or lunges, then immediately jump on the treadmill to maintain your race pace.
- Station 5 (Rowing): The Endurance by Body-Solid R300 Rower is a powerhouse for this. It provides a commercial-grade feel that prepares your back, legs, and lungs for the 1,000m row mid-race.
2. The Power: Sled Push & Pull
Stations 2 and 3 are often where races are won or lost.
- Stations 2 & 3: The Body-Solid Weight Sled is essential here. Load it up to mimic the 102kg–175kg push requirements. Practicing your stance and “low-drive” technique on a Body-Solid sled will ensure your legs don’t redline when you hit the actual carpet.
3. Functional Strength: Kettlebells & Wall Balls
The latter half of the race tests your grip strength and muscular endurance.
- Station 6 (Farmers Carry): Grab a pair of heavy Body-Solid Kettlebells. The Farmer’s Carry is all about grip integrity and core stability. Training with these helps you stay upright even when your lungs are burning.
- Station 8 (Wall Balls): The finisher. Use Body-Solid Tools Dynamax Medicine Balls or the Tire Tread Slam Balls to practice your depth and target accuracy. The Tire Tread balls offer a unique grip texture that is great for maintaining control when your hands are sweaty at the end of a race.
4. Stability: Sandbag Lunges
Station 7 requires you to carry a heavy sandbag over your paper-thin quads for 100 meters of lunges.
- Station 7: While you can use a dedicated sandbag, training your lunging volume with Body-Solid Kettlebells in a front-rack position is a fantastic way to build the necessary posterior chain strength and balance.
